Damp room

2009

Performance by Massimiliano Manieri

for the show WATER CUBE: LA MEMORIA DELL’ACQUA

Primo Piano LivinGallery, Lecce

The artist creates a temporal short circuit between present and past in a game of absolute spatial estrangement.
A “humid”, timeless room, in which at first glance the environmentalist call is strong but also the reflection with the other, the encounter between the “black man” and the white man, the alien, the one who comes from a superior state, from an infinite purity and which is reflected, in spite of itself, in an ocean of wrecks and oil. In the performance there are a succession of references to the meaning of life, to the meaning of the world (Passage-birth-change) to the sense of space for sharing and transmission (water) and in which the spectator becomes the protagonist, himself, immersing himself in the water, to rediscover his memory once again.
