Artist, actress, deep explorer and instructor of the Gioia4kids method, Paola has an artistic approach method in harmony with nature. Graduated from the Academy of Milan, she lives and works around Italy. During the residency she created the collective performance «Il luogo svelato», an action that combines poetry, dance, sound with shamanic drumming and rituality.

Thanksgiving Ceremony to Mother Earth with the project “The Earth talks: our archetypes “, with a group and ritual performance on the “5 elements”, represented, in order of appearance by Polyxene Kasda for the WATER element, through a rite of ablution, by Rose Sacquegna for the FIRE element, a symbol of transformation and purification , by Maria Amanda Stefanelli for the EARTH element, with the construction of a sacred circle “The earth listens”, followed by the prayer-oration of gratitude for life, for art and the cosmos, by the performer Paola Crisostomo for the element of AIR, and finally the ETHER, the fifth element of the cycle that begins and ends the event under the supervision and direction by Dores Sacquegna. The performance is accompanied by the sound incursions by the flutist Roberto Gagliardi and by the percussionist Francesco Perrone, from the banquet of libations / offerings and involves all the artists and the invited audience.

In his second act of the live performance, Massimiliano Manieri – with Mafalda Greco –  represents the manifestation of the suffering of the human being due to the tragic events and above all the issue of plastic pollution. Reaffirming the concept that the human being is a guest of planet earth and not its owner, Manieri, highlights the suffering of man as well as the suffering “Michelangelo’s Prisons”, for reasons of cause and effect. It helps to load the drama of the act, some of the elements he wears, making the viewer feel part of the event.

For the exhibition :INTRA MUNDI| TIES, TRANSITS AND LANDINGS OF A PRESENT IMPERFECT

Contemporary mythography is to bring to light and interpret the darker side of our unconscious. In that shady place, in which ghosts, nightmares and existential discomforts live, Italian director, poet and performer Massimiliano Manieri, finds fertile ground to move consciences, through actions that create devices of insecurity, fear, loss of one’s control in the spectators or participants. This action is the son of a social system that navigates in unbridled consumerism and forgets the values ​​of respect for nature and the planet.

With the performance “WAP, World After Plastic”, exhibited for the first time in Naples in 2020 in the middle of the pandemic, now arrives in Lecce, with his restless load, to tackle the problem of plastic pollution together with all of us. In partnership with Piermatteo Vantaggiato, the artist Manieri, eviscerates impulses and fears about the possible catastrophe in progress due to global warming and the polluting problem. The scenario that the new protagonists of the action will face is to perceive what it means to feel engulfed and suffocated by plastic. A threshold that is not that of accessing imaginative worlds, but of entering a pressing circuit that makes them “aseptic and executioners” protagonists of their present.

The exhibition

Following the practice of travel ethnography, INTRA MUNDI arrives in Lecce, with its load of visionary navigators to give life to a contemporary Odyssey. The event unfolds between loyalty to one’s roots and the risk of losing them and finds its mainland in a fluid territory susceptible to continuous historical, social and environmental hybridizations. Intra Mundi pays attention to Nature, a place of healing, teaching and the root of our lives. Intra Mundi is a dreamlike dimension and space of eternal flow, and among the waves, we will find the traces and memories of aimless travelers, because after all, the landscape itself is the destination.

“ANATOMY OF A CALLIGRAPHER II ACT” is written and directed by poet and performer Massimiliano Manieri, from Lecce. The performance features five women from Lecce, including Maria Gabriella Marra (calligrapher and stage ceramics), Valentina Maritati, Daniela Ladisa, Barbara Caliandro and Anna Lucia Indennitate (models). The performative action pay a tribute to the film “Pillow Book” by Peter Greenway, in turn it inspired by the text “The notes of the pillow” by the Japanese poet Sei Shonagon lived in the year 1000 D.C.

The perception of one’s body or world in which we live is mediated by the image that others have of it. It is in this mutual view that the relationship between the individual and the outside world is built. From this point of view the world is a projection of our consciousness. What happens inside the circle represents the flow of life, the awakening of a naked inner conscience, the aesthetics of judgment that each of us brings with it. It is thus evident how false the common sense that makes us perceive things as immutable and static entities, while they are always in progress, are inaccessible, evidence of the conflictual relationship between the individual and the subject of culture, between history and its time.
